On the first day of the last series of classes that I attended the instructor ask if we wanted to do a alternative firing. We chose to do a "HORSE HAIR FIRING" this consisted of heating the items in a kiln and then pulling them out and putting tail or mane hair from a horse on them. The pieces are made from "RAKU" clay with a polished "TERRA SIGILLATA" coating. This gives the items a white finished look when fired. This was done on the last day of class. 10/10/07

This was done at the Eagan art house it is clear glaze over colored slip using stamps in the fresh rolled clay.

Since I last blogged a lot has been going on, in mid August I bought a smaller kiln from friends of my son in-law's. We were in Tooele Utah on a short visit and they mentioned they had a kiln they didn't use any more it was a perfect addition to my small studio. I have fired 1 bisque load and 1 glaze load. I will say it was rather enjoyable to fire things from start to finish in just 2 days. I have been working on my first tea pot for some time now along with some vases and a smaller cup and some other various items. They were my first attempt at firing at home I was quite pleased in the end product.

The tea pot has several hours work in it over the last 2 Months
